Who are we?
Where it all started…
Team True Spirit was formed in 2009 at the height of the Afghanistan conflict and the original purpose was to inspire, enable and support a group of seriously injured service personnel from Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre, Headley Court, to complete the Ironman UK triathlon.
Since then it has gone from strength to strength and has helped over 1000 wounded, injured or sick serving personnel and veterans to overcome their physical and mental health challenges through participating in endurance challenges.
These challenges have included:
- Lakeland 50/100
- Ironman UK triathlon
- Cotswolds 113 triathlon
- Cotswolds Classic triathlon
- Arch 2 Arc triathlon challenge
- North Coast 500 cycle
- Windermere One Way swim
- Yorkshire 3 Peaks challenge
And, numerous Epic Events cycle rides and swims.
The Team was supported by Help for Heroes until 2021 and was established as an independent charity in 2022.
Who we are now…
We are a UK registered charity which helps British military veterans, injured or made ill serving our country, to uncover their true determination, defiance and cast iron motivation to achieve their goal of crossing the finish line of an endurance sports event.
Many of the team members have struggled to come to terms with the nature of their injuries; They have battled with the subsequent long-term physical and mental health problems and the challenge of adjusting to a life completely unknown to them before, as have their families trying to support them.

What We Do
We use endurance sporting challenges as a means of rehabilitation and to provide a sense of achievement for our veterans’ members, and for our fundraisers an opportunity to complete the same challenges alongside these inspirational individuals.
A list of the events we will be taking part in can be found on the Events Calendar page.
Individuals can also complete their own fundraising challenges in aid of Team True Spirit and register their event through our GoFundMe page.
We also have a community support network online, through our Facebook page, and the events calendar enables us to provide face to face support and opportunities to socialise together throughout the year.
There’s no membership fee, it’s open to all and you’re welcome to join.
Events Calendar
To focus our training and broaden our support throughout the year, we select a range of events that are suitably challenging, yet achievable for our veterans, and that will provide the necessary challenge to our fundraisers.
Here are the future events we have selected and would love you all to get in touch to discuss how you can get involved!
